A community newsletter is only as good as the people who read it. And people read newsletters that feel personal, well-written and worth their time.
I work with HOAs, active adult, 55+, and independent and assisted living communities as a professional editor, writer and newsletter manager. I bring a full range of services to publications that are already up and running or help communities launch something new from scratch.
What I do
With 14 years as the managing editor for close to 90 issues of a national magazine and 30-plus years of professional copywriting experience, I know how to take a collection of club updates, board announcements and resident submissions and turn them into a publication people look forward to each month.
I offer a complete range of newsletter services, from full production management to targeted editorial support, depending on what your community needs. This could include:
Editorial services
- Planning the editorial calendar
- Writing feature articles, columns, and tidbits
- Working with and editing articles written by contributors
- Copyediting and proofreading
- Selecting photos and writing captions
Production and business services
- Layout and design
- Coordinating photo usage
- Advertising sales
- Coordinating advertising placement
- Coordinating the entire editorial and production process
Take a look
Want to see what this looks like in practice? Take a look at two sample issues, each built for a different kind of community.
Camden Oaks Courier — A sample monthly newsletter for a fictional independent and assisted living community that I wrote, designed, and produced to engage residents while giving prospective families a real feel for daily life there.
The Arbor Bulletin — A fictional 55+ community newsletter that shows exactly what I bring to a publication.
Who I work with
I work with a small number of community publications at a time, which means the communities I take on get my full attention.
Whether your community already has a newsletter and you'd like to elevate it or if you've been thinking about starting one and aren't sure where to begin, I'd love to talk.
